Raid 26 - 11 - 12 September 1915

The Raid

The airship, believed to be LZ77 came in over Essex and dropped 52 incendiary bombs & 8 HE bombs  on the Royal Field Artillery camp near North Weald Bassett. No damage was done. There was then a change of course over West Suffolk and Norfolk.

Summary

The Official report believes the raid was meant to London given the high number of incendiaries it was carrying. There was fog over parts of Essex so the commander might have been misplaced.

Weather – Clear sky with a slight haze

Response – one AA gun opened fire at Southminster and one place took off from Chelmsford but wasn’t able to find the airship.
